Being in the wellness business I do a lot of reading. I read the book the “China Study”, “Your Health Your Choice” and “Eat to Live” and all three books came to the same conclusion. The conclusion was there was a relationship between nutrition and disease. All three books originated for different reasons and explored different topics.
The China Study was a research project that spanned 20 years and began as a survey of diseases and lifestyle factors in rural China and Taiwan. It began exploring why some people live longer and have less disease than others. The project produced more than 8,000 statistically significant associations between various dietary factors and disease. The conclusion or findings of the book were that people who ate the most animal based foods got the most chronic diseases. People whoa ate the most plant based foods were the healthiest.
Your Health Your Choice was written to explain how our digestive systems work and the importance of keeping a balanced pH. The book reviewed how different foods affected our pH and how dangerous an acidic pH could be. It also explained what can cause acid in the body, and how an acidic pH leads to chronic disease. The conclusion of the book was for maximum health and to avoid chronic diseases, you should eat 75% of your diet from plant based foods like fruit and vegetables.
Eat to Live is a book that focuses on eating nutrient dense food and how eating that way will keep you healthy and thin. It is a book that explains why we should implement dietary changes and pay attention to what we eat. It is what I call the best weight loss diet out there. It teaches you healthy eating plans and makes you think about what and why you are eating. It focuses on eating more fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains, kind of similar to a vegetarian weight loss plan.
You can imagine after I read these books how I became excited and decided to change the focus of my eating from meat and cheese to fruits and veggie’s. None of the books said “never eat meat”, none of the books said “don’t eat cake”. The books suggest that you limit the animal foods and the processed foods. Follow a 90/10 plan or an 80/20 plan. I have implemented these changes in my diet and the first week I lost 4 pounds! In his book “Eat to Live” Dr. Fuhrman says those who follow it strictly the first six weeks and give up meat have an average weight loss of 20 pounds!
Following the recommendations in Dr. Fuhrman’s Book “Eat to Live” is not only a healthy diet plan, it is the best weight loss diet I have found and it written and designed by a doctor! You don’t have to count calories – in fact the more nutrient dense foods you eat (green veggie’s and green leafy lettuce) the more you lose! It is a healthy eating diet that you can modify to suit your needs and also offers weight loss solutions for everyone.
